100Call is a voice-over-IP client for Windows computers. This application works with the 100call.com service.

Just like Skype, 100Call allows you to call other computers that have the client application installed for free. And it charges you small fees for calling to common phones and mobile phones. You can expect the fees to be almost the same as in most other VOIP solutions like this, since they all use similar providers.

The application itself is not really impressive. Whenever you start it, it will ask you for your user name and a password, and you can change a number of settings. When you hit OK, you will be taken to the phone dialer, which is a small square-like window with numbers, a volume control slider and the end and "send" buttons. It amazes me that the application does not even have an option to remember your user information. Another big problem is the registration process. I registered to download the dialer, and the thing won't accept my user info. It is rather unclear whether the application is asking for a mobile number or your first name. Terminology is different on the website and in the client application.

There are however two or three nice noise-reduction filters that work quite well. There is a rather plain phonebook and a call history window, but I don't see any support for instant messaging. Perhaps another problem is that 100Call is not as popular as other solutions, so the number of users using this will be low, at best.

  • Free calls to other 100call users
